Rehabilitation of Prisoners' Children For Their Better Future with Prisoners Assistance Nepal – Project 017

017

Project 017 / 2024 – 2028

018

Prisoners Assistance Nepal (PA Nepal) aims to address human rights issues faced by prisoners and their children in Nepal. The project tackles problems such as children living in desolate prison environments, inadequate healthcare, weak legal support, social stigma, and lack of identity documentation. Building upon a previous successful partnership from 2019-2023, the new project focuses on enhancing the well-being of prisoners' children, emphasizing education, healthcare, and reintegration into society.

  • Key objectives: The project's key objectives include providing a safe and supportive environment for 60 children rescued from prison, offering daycare facilities for 15 smaller children, and implementing a reintegration program for youths. Through these initiatives, the project aims to break down social barriers, reduce stigma, and empower prisoners' children for a more sustainable and efficient reintegration into society.

  • The main activities are aimed at providing a supportive environment for 60 children released from prison, including safe housing, a balanced diet, medical care, and quality education. The children are accommodated in group homes near their parents' prisons, ensuring proximity and connection. Contracts with the penitentiary department guarantee that children reunite with their parents upon release, with compassionate care and education tailored to their individual needs, including psychological support. The project also seeks to offer childcare facilities with early childhood development education and a nutritious diet for 15 younger children of prisoners, strengthening the bond between the children and their parents in prison. The reintegration program includes connections with original families, vocational training, entrepreneurship opportunities, and local networks for reintegration. Lastly, the project aims to reconnect youth with their families, avoiding relocations and emphasizing local networks, with professional training options in entrepreneurship and collaboration with local leaders, women's groups, and youth for reintegration networks.
